Before you begin! AAFSW carefully screens each application for compliance with our membership policy. You must demonstrate affiliation with a U.S. foreign affairs agency or ask a current Associate to provide written confirmation of your application. If you cannot comply, please consider joining our mailing list to receive news and notifications of public events. |

An Associate membership requires proof of a current or former affiliation with a foreign affairs agency, either as an employee or family member. Associate memberships are also available to former spouses of foreign affairs employees. Applicants must demonstrate affiliation by providing a government email address, an employment verification document, or a reference from an existing member. An Associate membership includes access and privileges for two family members. Associates may attend the annual general assembly and vote in association elections. Each family member may participate independently in all AAFSW events, activities, and opportunities.
A Friend membership does not require an affiliation with a foreign affair agency. A Friend must be sponsored in writing by a current Associate. A Friend membership is limited to a single individual and is valid for a renewable one-year period. Friends may receive general communication, attend events, and participate in networking opportunities; other activities may be restricted to Associate members.
AAFSW may offer a Partner membership to companies or individuals that provide support, products, or services to the foreign service community. Partners may receive general communication, attend events, and participate in networking opportunities; other activities may be restricted to Associate members. Partners may be eligible to post their logo on AAFSW media. For additional information, contact our Membership Committee.
Donors of $10,000 or more may be eligible for additional benefits including a lifetime Associate or Friend membership, priority event registration, and privileged networking opportunities. For additional information, contact our Fundraising Committee.
All memberships are annual and renew automatically. Dues are payable upon application and annually thereafter at the membership renewal date. Members must provide credit card details during the application process and consent to automatic renewal payments. Members may cancel their membership or automatic payments at any time prior to the renewal date. Cancelled memberships remain valid until their expiration date but may not receive a refund for prorated dues.
All members of AAFSW are expected to abide by the rules and regulations listed in the Association Bylaws. All Associates are encouraged to attend the annual general assembly, to vote on Committee Leaders and Executive Board Members. AAFSW strives to uphold the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA).
