    Biography

    Nazar Al Khirullah, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Iraq to the United States of America, a posting assumed in June 2023. He has previously served as Senior Deputy Foreign Minister for Bilateral Relations, and prior to his posting in Washington, he served as Iraq’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Netherlands and Permanent Representative of Iraq to OPCW.

    Diplomatic Assignments

    His Diplomatic postings include Iraq’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Iraq’s Ambassador to France. He represented Iraq at the ministerial meetings of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and he was a member of the National Security Council at the undersecretary level headed by the National Security Adviser.

    Achievements

    Ambassador Al Khirullah was the Chairman of the Preparatory Committee for the visit of His Holiness Pope Frances to Iraq and the committee for the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership for neighboring and some regional countries in 2021, and the official spokesman for the conference; the Chairman of the Higher Committee for negotiating the refugee issue with the European Union, and Vice-Chairman of the Supreme Committee of negotiation of the Strategic Framework Agreement between Iraq and the United States. He heads the higher committees for negotiations with the neighboring countries; Iran, Turkey, and Kuwait (Gulf Cooperation Council). He chaired the Higher Committee for Negotiation with the Neighboring Countries on Water and was a negotiator who ran many negotiation rounds with different countries.

    Education

    Ambassador Al Khirullah was educated in the U.K. and Iraq, and holds an MA degree in Politics of International Resources and Development from Leeds University, Department of Politics, and other degrees and certificates in Politics and Art Studies.
